Altar serving is an important and special way for young people to participate in the the celebration of the Mass. Boys and girls may enlist to serve at 5th class or over and may continue up to and during 3rd year at secondary school. A priest of the parish visits the parish schools to promote altar serving and distributes application forms.The interested recruit is asked to discuss the matter fully with parents and guardians before completing the form. At a meeting of new candidates and parents/guardians a member of the Parish Child Protection Team outlines good practice, and a member of the the Training Team describes the duties of the volunteer and the parent. The parent/guardian signs a permission form allowing the child to serve. The next session involves the training.
Ideally servers are scheduled to serve Mass at least on one Sunday in the month. Each server receives a schedule and rota and is encouraged to set the dates in a mobile phone calendar.

29/11/2008 - 28 servers enjoyed a trip to Lisburn, County Antrim, where they saw a movie at the Omniplex, enjoyed a meal at KFC and shopping at the Bow Street Shopping Mall. Thanks to the parents and adults who volunteered their time on the day to supervise. Next year we'll do something again.
